MIDWEST SKI HILLSBUILT ON GARBAGE

They were built on a pile of garbage.

Often nicknamed "Mt. Trashmore"

Riverview Highlands - Riverview, MI, near Detroit, 1981 - 1997

James Park - Evanston, IL, 1973 - 1982

Crystal Ridge - Franklin, WI , 1987 - present

PLANNED BUT NEVER OPENED

Mt. Hoy - Warrenville, IL, NEVER OPENED

Salem Township Landfill - Salem, MI,
NEVER OPENED

Brookings Ski Hill, Brookings, SD, NEVER OPENED
Mt. Trashmore, Cedar Rapids, IA - NEVER OPENED

WHAT ABOUT MT. BRIGHTON, BRIGHTON, MI?

The movie was wrong!  Most of us have seen the movie Aspen Extreme whereTJ and Dexter discuss how Mt. Brighton was built on a garbage dump.  Actually, Mt. Brighton was built on excess dirt from the construction of local highways and not on garbage.
